Bloating can occur as a result of medical conditions like ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), heartburn, overweight, eating disorders like anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa and also the use of certain medications.

Natural Ways of Deflating your Stomach


Turmeric acts as a detoxifying agent and it is very beneficial for the body. It can be found in powder form, but also as tincture. Hence, you can simply add a teaspoon (either in drops or powder) in beverages like tea, water, fruit juice or a smoothie before having a heavy meal. Have in mind that the intake of this spice is not recommended for people that are having a blood disorder, pregnant women, and for people suffering from stomach ulcers.


The intake of ginger protects and heals the intestines, speeds up the movement of food in the gastrointestinal tract and thus lowers bloating, gas, and cramps. Its flavor will awaken the taste buds and circulate the digestive juices thus preventing bloating. You should include ginger in your tea, fresh juice or smoothie.

Have in mind that pregnant women, diabetics, people with weak immunity and those suffering from blood diseases should not consume ginger.

Cayenne pepper

This spice boosts digestion, removes gas and alleviates pressure and cramps.

Note that it is not recommended for pregnant women, for people that are on anticoagulant therapy and for people with hemorrhoids.

Lemon water

Sipping lemon water before an important event can be very beneficial. So, a few hours before going out it is recommended to drink water with fresh lemon and a little cayenne pepper for an anti-bloating effect.

In case of ulcers or heartburn make certain not to drink lemon water.

Coconut water

Sipping coconut water can alleviate bloating along with the intake of lemon water and Cayenne pepper.

Lifestyle Change

This is the most effective way and because of that if you have an issue with abdominal bloating you need to adopt some simple changes in your lifestyle.

Tips in Case of Bloating

  • Limit the intake of soft drinks or the best option is to ban them.
  • Take your food slowly and do not drink your liquids by using a straw.
  • Stop chewing gums as in that way you are swallowing extra air which can lead to bloating.
  • Take in probiotics which can bring healthy gut bacteria.
  • Avoid the consumption of foods that cause gas like dried beans, dairy products, cabbage family vegetables, dried beans, and lentils.
  • Introduce regular physical activity which will strengthen and stimulate the work of the muscles of your abdomen and in that way you will put an end to any intestinal discomfort.
